"Jewelry can feel so daunting at first, but do it for the right reasons."

MEET THE ARTIST
Meet jewelry artist Aimee Philpott. Based in Calgary, Alberta, she has been silversmithing for 4 years now. Her creations can be found on Instagram @MotoMamaMetals :)
THE JOURNEY TO CREATING JEWELRY
"I’ve always been inspired & honoured to capture fragments of time within my pieces, encapsulating moments & memories for each client to wear for decades and more to come," Aimee started.
When she first began silversmithing, she was simply looking for a hobby. But shortly after starting the craft, Aimee shared that she realized she wasn’t naturally talented in the field. She even gave up and put silversmithing on the back burner.
One day, she decided to try it again. To Aimee's surprise, something clicked. Since that day, she has devoted her life to this craft.
Four years later, Aimee still remembers the very first piece she sold. She shared that it was sold on Instagram to a friend of hers. "I wasn't trying to sell my work at the time, and I remember the feeling of 'wow, I can't believe someone thinks my work is good enough to own and wear!'" What a special feeling 💚
Let's take a look at some of Aimee's beautiful creations!
ARTIST'S DESIGN STYLE
For creators, one of the best feelings is when you get that AHA! moment where you are extremely pleased or satisfied. Aimee remembered the very first she felt that way, "Yes! I recall soldering one of my first designs, and something just clicked. My misunderstanding, my confusion slowly trickled away, and I felt as though I had finally had a small grasp on one of many corners of the craft."

JEWELRY DESIGN TIPS, TRICKS, AND HANDY TECHNIQUES
What's one design tip you one to share with your fellow artists?
"DO NOT RUSH!"
One piece of technical advice on creating.
"DO NOT CUT CORNERS. No matter what it is you're doing, if it's done half-ass or lazy, it will never work out, and the quality won't be there."
Any words of encouragement or tips to those who are starting out in the world of jewelry-making?
"Jewelry can feel so daunting at first, but do it for the right reasons. Do it because you’re passionate to learn, grow & evolve as an artist, the rest will follow."
