Carli gets her turquoise from her most trusted sellers on Instagram, and we’re lucky enough to be part of her list! “I source all of my Turquoise from trusted sellers on Instagram, mainly from 2 accounts and Turquoise Moose being one of them,” she states.
When it comes to purchasing turquoise, Carli usually looks for polychrome color mixes and unique and awesome matrix patterns. She adds that she is naturally drawn to earthy turquoise colors, but she tries to purchase stones from every colorway and mine.
We wanted to know what are the advantages and disadvantages of working with turquoise from our favorite artists themselves. Carli said that turquoise never gets out of style, which is why in her opinion, it is pretty sensible to invest in it all year long.
On the other hand, one of its disadvantages for her is that turquoise is getting more and more expensive due to the mines closing down or drying up. In addition, she also mentioned that more jewelers are entering the scene and starting up buying their collections.
Now, let’s talk more turquoise! Carli’s personal favorite has got to be Giraffe for its intense orange/brown, Earthy color, and Bao Canyon, for its ability to change color and matrix with every nugget. She explains, “That being said, I love turquoise in every color!” So do we!
For the size, as she tends to gravitate to making bigger pieces, Carli looks for stones from 20 mm upwards and she likes working with uniform shapes instead of free-form.
Here’s a little bezeling tip from this amazing artist: “A ball vise makes setting stones so much easier. You can buy them quite reasonably from eBay for around $120.” Now, that’s handy!
When we asked if Carli is implementing environmentally-friendly efforts in what she does, she explains that she makes sure she gets her stones from ethically mined sources and that the money benefits the miner/cutter instead of companies.
We truly appreciate efforts like this as we are also doing our best in being kinder to Mother Earth.
As per Carli’s signature design, she described it as, “I like making my etched ring shanks edged in sterling or gold wire. Apart from this, I don’t like staying in one style very long as I get bored.” Indeed! Variety is one of the things that makes design exciting, don’t you think?

What do you like about working with Turquoise Moose?
“Turquoise Moose sells excellent quality turquoise and I have no doubts that my stones are of quality. They respond to messages very quickly which I appreciate. The website is extremely easy to navigate and their photos are not photoshopped brighter in color so I have never been disappointed with my order when it arrives. They also like running regular sales which is great! 😆”
