THE JOURNEY TO CREATING JEWELRY
The amazing jewelry artist behind Juni Jewelry Co. is Hannah Nixon from Vancouver Island. She has been creating jewelry for 5 years now, and her creations can be seen on Instagram @junijewelryco 💚
From a young age, Hannah already had a deep love for jewelry and the stories each piece told, she said, "I always thought how I’d love to learn how to make my own, but not knowing where to begin." 5 years ago, she had an opportunity to make that dream a reality and she fell in love with the skill of metalsmithing more than she had imagined! That's where it all started.
When she was just getting started, Hannah highlighted that patience was the most important part of her metalsmithing journey. Explaining, "Still 5 years later, mistakes are made and lessons are learned. Being able to stop and take the time to be completely satisfied with your work throughout each step of the process can be frustrating and time consuming, but the end result is always worth it."
Stepping into something new, firsts are almost always special! Asking if she still recalls the very first piece she sold, Hannah said she still does and it was a piece of jewelry sold via Esty! At that time, she felt both equally excited and anxious when she got the notification of the sale, stating that being an artist can be scary to put yourself out there! Over the years as her skills and confidence developed, feelings of self doubt have diminished and every sale she makes feels like a celebration. 🫶🏼

ARTIST'S DESIGN STYLE
Recalling her very first AHA! moment as a jewelry artist, Hannah said it was when she made a piece with multiple stones for the first time - she felt incredibly proud of herself. As she said, "Nothing better than feeling unsure if you are capable and proving yourself wrong!"
THE DESIGN PROCESS
"When I’m designing I like to pull all my materials out and being to play with all the pieces," Hannah explained. She said she has a hard time visualizing by just drawing alone, so oftentimes, she'd start building the pieces before she has a clear idea where it’s headed.
Asked to describe her design style, she said it's Western-influenced and one-of-a- kind pieces! 💚

Any words of encouragement or tips to those who are starting out in the world of jewelry-making?
