Meet Los Angeles-based jewelry artist Niko Beth, also seen on Instagram with the handle @niko.beth.jewelry. She has been metalsmithing for three years now.

THE JOURNEY TO CREATING JEWELRY

At first, jewelry making was a hobby to Niko. Then, she shared how she became incredibly passionate about the artistry. The more she learned about turquoise and gemstones, the more she wanted to create.

Niko said putting art into the world is like exposing a piece of your heart. "It’s always vulnerable to put yourself out there, but it’s worth it when it’s well received and you see people wearing a piece of you," she elaborated.

Curious if there's a significant meaning behind her brand name, Niko mentioned she actually started out under a different brand name. However, she found that it felt impersonal. She added that she wanted people to know it was just her behind the scenes so she changed it to a shortened version of her name, Nicole Elizabeth.

ARTIST’S DESIGN STYLE

Niko's first AHA moment as a jewelry artist was when she had her first sale. She said she’ll always remember it. She added, "Knowing there was at least one person who liked my art enough to spend their hard earned money on it was all the validation I needed."

THE DESIGN PROCESS

When we asked what is Niko's design process like, she said it's all over the place as she designs as she goes. Sometimes, she told us she surprises herself because she never really knows how something is going to look until it’s finished.

Niko considers her pieces to be future heirlooms, "I like to combine timeless vintage inspired designs with current trends to create a piece that will be wearable for a lifetime."

What's one design tip you one to share with your fellow artists?

"Follow your instincts, don’t rush the process and trust the artistry will flow through you."

Any words of encouragement or tips to those who are starting out in the world of jewelry-making?

"Don’t compare yourself to other artists. Be true to who you are, comparison is the thief of joy."
