Moose Fact: Getting To Know Carico Lake Turquoise
There are a lot of turquoise mines all over the world, but not so much here in the United States. One of the most prominent turquoise mines is found in Nevada. For turquoise enthusiasts, you may have heard of it before, and you might even be fond of this type of turquoise (and so are we). Let’s get talking about the Carico Lake turquoise!
ORIGIN OF CARICO LAKE TURQUOISE
Carico Lake turquoise has been named differently over the years by other turquoise businesses. It was then known as Stone Canyon and Aurora turquoise, but you’d not see this as much these days.
For its remote location and harsh weather conditions during the winter months, the amount of time that is allowed to mine is quite limited, which is why Carico Lake turquoise is considered a rare one, adding to its value as well.
CARICO LAKE TURQUOISE PROPERTIES
Visually, this type of turquoise is distinctly known for the clear, iridescent, green color. This is due to the zinc and copper content.
WHAT DOES CARICO LAKE TURQUOISE LOOK LIKE
You will also find some stones wherein it has a dark blue-green color coupled with a black spider web matrix. In addition, it also has a wide range of colors, from dark blues to light greens. You’d also find a few hints of yellow or dark blue webbing.
It is one of the most sought-after turquoise stones because of its beautiful colors and how scarce it can be. Any turquoise collector knows this.
This specific mine also produces blue turquoise and lime green turquoise, which some claim as a Faustite, but up to this date, it is quite debatable. In the market, turquoise enthusiasts tend to gravitate more towards the lime-green colored turquoise from the mine due to its undeniably beautiful color and how scarce the material is.
Currently, the Carico Lake mine is owned by Ernie Montoya, and he markets the stones in jewelry and cabochon form.
