Moose Fact: Getting To Know Royston Turquoise

Royston is a mining district in Nevada just outside of Tonapah. Originally, it consisted of four turquoise claims namely Bunker Hill, Easter Blue, Oscar Wehrend, and Royal Blue. It was also originally controlled by Lee F. Hand and at present is owned by the Otteson family.

In 1958, the Otteson family relocated to the Tonopah area and has been mining some of the most sought-after turquoise all over the world. Due to its wide range of blue, the Royston turquoise mine is known really well from other turquoise mines in the Nevada area.

Known for its exquisite colors that range from deep green to rich and light blues, added with brown or golden matrixes, the Royton turquoise is truly one of the most loved turquoise by turquoise enthusiasts and artists.

In addition, the Royston is also known for its rare blue to green fade which can be visible in a single rock or cab.

Speaking of its colors, in the Travel Nevada blog, it was mentioned that the very specific shade of turquoise Tiffany and Co. selected for its brand color was inspired by the color of turquoise coming out of the Royston mine!

Currently, the Royston district is still producing high-quality turquoise.
